For more information or to schedule a consultation call Dr. Strachan offers the following services: * Acne * Removal of Facial Moles * Treatment of Keloids * Chemical Peels * Laser Peels (Whisper® Laser) * Hair Removal * SkinStation® Photorejuvenation, Brown spot and Vascular Lesion clearance * Botox® Cosmetic * Soft Tissue Volume Fillers * Skin-Focused Nutritional Consultation Acne Acne is one of the most common diagnosis in both adults and teenagers. It is a disease of the hair follicles that commonly affects the face and well as the neck, chest, back and arms. Acne lesions may leave unsightly scars or blemishes. Although a harmless condition, acne can affect a person? confidence. Adult women are especially vulnerable to developing acne. It may be related to hormonal problems. There are a variety of effective prescription treatments and in-office procedures which help clear the skin of acne and the marks it leaves behind. Removal of Facial Moles Moles and other birthmarks are benign pigmented spots or patches of skin that range in color from tan, brown and black (moles) to red, pink or purple (vascular nevi, such as strawberry hemangiomas or port wine stains). Depending on their depth, location and color, as well as the patient?s skin type, age and other factors, treatment for benign birthmarks may take the form of laser or pulsed light therapy, or surgical excision. Dermatosis papulosa nigra, a condition in which people develop small, brown, scaly papules on the face, neck and/or chest. They are sometimes described as "moles," however they are another type of benign papule that can be removed with an electric needle for cosmetic reasons. Chemical Peels A chemical peel is a procedure in which a substance is applied to the skin to promote exfoliation (more rapid skin turnover). A variety of chemical peel strengths exist (superficial, medium, and deep). At Aglow Dermatology we offer a variety of the more superficial peels which are safer and result in little to no down time. A chemical peel can address a variety of skin conditions or be a way to promote a beautiful, glowing complexion in people without an underlying skin problem. Chemical peels can be performed on people of all ethnicities. Chemical peels can help in the treatment of: * Acne and acne scars * razor bumps * sun damage * wrinkles * blemishes * melasma What happens during a chemical peel? The procedure usually takes no more than 20 minutes. After cleansing the face, or other area to be treated, a peeling agent is applied. Depending on which agent is used, it may be washed off or left on the skin. The peeling process usually begins 1-3 days after the procedure and is complete in 5-7 days. The skin may appear dry and flaky during this time. Moisturizer and sunscreen must be used regularly during the 5-7 days after the peel. Use of these products helps achieve better healing and masks the peeling process. You will be able to return to work or other activities immediately after your chemical peel. Peels can be repeated in 2-4 weeks. More than one peel may be required depending on your goals and condition. Use of products containing retinoids, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid, as well as scrubs, microdermabrasion and waxing should be avoided for 3 days before and for 1 week after a chemical peel. Although results may be achieved after one treatment, a series of 3-6 treatments may be required depending on the peel, other treatments used, and the condition. We offer a variety of chemical peels at Aglow Dermatology, including: * Glycolic acid (alpha hydroxy acid) ? one of our lighter peels. Glycolic acid peels are an excellent choice for acne, sun damage, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation. Preferred in patients who have aspirin allergy. * Salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid) ? like glycolic peels, salicylic acid peels are great for acne, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and fine lines but are slightly stronger. * Vitalize Peel® - a modified Jessner?s peel. This slightly stronger peel gives dramatic results even after one peel. It is more effective for textural changes resulting from sun damage and acne scarring in addition to being an excellent choice for acne, fine lines, and discoloration. The Skinmedica skin care line, which compliments this peel, is available for purchase at the office. * VI Peel® - All the rage in Hollywood, the VI Peel is a custom blend of peeling agents that result in a glowing complexion within a week. The VI Peel is particularly effective in clearing hyperpigmentation quickly but is also very effective for acne, wrinkles and sun damage. Samples of VI Derm professional skin care products come with peel and are also available for purchase at the office. Click here to watch Dr. Strachan talk about chemical peels on the CBS News! Laser Peels (Whisper® laser) The WhisperNG Erbium YAG Extended Ablation laser enables the physician to provide a unique ultra-fast, true laser peel with outstanding results and little to no downtime (depending on intensity of treatment). WhisperNG is gentle enough to be used on the face, neck, décolleté and back of hands. Peeling is spread over 3-5 days and skin is completely healed between 5-10 days, depending on the intensity of the peel. The peeling process occurs simultaneously with reepithelialization. The result is a noticeable improvement in skin texture, without unduly exposing the underlying dermis. Whisper treatments are excellent for skin rejuvenation or treatment of more severe acne scarring. * Used for rejuvenation, wrinkles and depressed acne scars * Results can be seen after first treatment * A series of 3-6 treatments administered one month apart may be required to achieve desired results depending on severity of condition * Skin is prepped for 2-3 weeks before treatment * Skin may be pink for 24 hours after treatment Hair removal Our permanent hair reduction services feature the Radiancy Skin Station? which uses a unique combination of intense pulsed light (IPL) and heat energy called LHE? that targets the melanin in the hair shaft, and then converts light to heat inside the follicle. The heat damages the actively growing hair, inhibiting and often preventing future hair growth. LHE? has been shown to have equal to superior efficacy and safety when compared to other light-assisted hair reduction technologies including laser. * only dark hair can be treated * removes unwanted hair on face and body * treats razor bumps * safe on dark and light skin * a series of 3-8 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart may be required for results * no waxing, plucking or depilatory use for 3 weeks prior to treatment SkinStation® photorejuvenation, brown spot and vascular lesion clearance Powered by Radiancy?s unique Light and Heat (LHE) technology, we are able to offer treatment for a variety of conditions including: sun spots, vascular lesions, sun damage, acne and psoriasis. Treatments typically take less than 10 minutes with no skin preparation or down time. BOTOX® Cosmetic BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. BOTOX® may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms. Soft tissue volume fillers As we age, we lose volume in our faces resulting in lines around the mouth, sunken cheeks, loss of contour around the lips, wrinkles, sunken eyes, and drooping of the earlobes. Instant correction can be achieved with hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvéderm® Injectable Gels. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin. Fillers can also be used to add volume to the lips. * Results can last up to 12 months depending on type and amount of filler injected and location treated * Redness, swelling and bruising may occur after treatment * Patient is numbed for 15-30 minutes prior to treatment Skin-Focused Nutritional Consultation - $50 for 20 minutes More and more people are interested in how diet can impact skin health and beauty. Fortunately, there is now more scientific information about the impact of food on health. Your detailed, nutritional intake form will be reviewed by our certified nutritional counselor and aesthetician who will then meet with you to make personalized dietary recommendations with respect to your skin health. I had a few questions and because I saw that she was rushing through everything I didn't bother to ask. Hopefully, what she prescribe works and look forward to my next visit. Verified ZocDoc User (name withheld for privacy) saw Dina Strachan, MD less than a month ago. * 1 Recommendation * 2 Bedside Manner * 2 Wait Time The doctor was more than 45 minutes late; considering our appointment lasted less than 5 minutes, I'm not sure what took so long for her to see me. Verified ZocDoc User (name withheld for privacy) saw Dina Strachan, MD on February 14, 2011 * 5 Recommendation * 5 Bedside Manner * 4 Wait Time Dr. Strachan was really nice and she's very knowledgeable. Overall, the office was clean and nice, the receptionist was very welcoming. However, I did feel I was a little rushed through the entire thing. I was there for about an hour and was only seen for about 10minutes. YET, I'm still going back, perhaps first time "consultations" are short and quick. I still fully recommend her. Verified ZocDoc User (name withheld for privacy) saw Dina Strachan, MD less than 3 months ago. * 3 Recommendation * 2 Bedside Manner * 5 Wait Time Office very nice and Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Dr. Strachan was also nice but the visit was EXTREMELY quick. It felt as if she came in, immediately began to fill out prescriptions, and then told me to come back in a month. I will go back because she comes highly recommended by a family member, but we shall see. Kimberly D. (Verified ZocDoc User) saw Dina Strachan, MD on February 5, 2011 * 5 Recommendation * 5 Bedside Manner * 4 Wait Time I was hesitant to go see Dina after all the negative reviews. Dr.Strachan or Dr.Jekyl and Mrs.Hyde? I don't know if this woman is suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder, but she was terrible today with a gross lack of bedside manner, irritability, and defensiveness. She recommended a pharmacy (Irmat Pharmacy) that delivered my prescription almost three weeks late and it was unusable! I had to send it back for another. She hunched her shoulders and said that had nothing to do with her. She was very defensive and acting as if I were somehow inconveniencing her or wasting her time! Upon entering the office, she was visibly annoyed, sarcastic, and highly lacking in professionalism. Don't waste your time there!

Horrendous experience. No eye contact, 3 minutes (no kidding) spent writing me a prescription. Didn't answer my questions, and plugged some skin care line which probably lines her pockets. Bedside manner of a wall street broker for which she is better suited. People with no interpersonal skills and who just want a money machine have no business in an industry which should be about healing.
